About this role

We are seeking a Lower Primary English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher to cultivate language acquisition, relational learning, academic growth, and transferrable competencies across both our international and bilingual pathways. Working flexibly across both pathways, you will apply Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) principles, co-teaching models, and small-group support to integrate language development into everyday classroom inquiry. Grounded in our commitment to global citizenship and multilingualism, you will encourage learning that celebrates cultural nuance, respects linguistic diversity, and builds early confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Build trusting relationships, understand each student's unique strengths and needs, and adapt instruction when working with individual students, small groups, and whole-class settings.

  • Plan instruction and learning activities in accordance with the ZIS curriculum, Mission, Values, Portrait of a ZIS Learner, and Learning Principles, connecting knowledge and competencies to meaningful learning.

  • Make learning goals clear, support multilingual learners through effective language modeling, and provide appropriate scaffolding, practice, and feedback without lowering the bar.

  • Create conditions for young students to think, inquire, practice, create, collaborate, make decisions, and take increasing responsibility for their learning.

  • Continually check for understanding, make learning visible, and administer agreed-upon assessment tools. Document progress, daily observations, and provide actionable feedback.

  • Support and participate in team, campus and school-wide curriculum development and implementation.

  • Engage actively in student supervision during indoor and outdoor activities, including lunch, arrival, and dismissal routines.

  • Chaperone student activities, curricular trips, and excursions.

  • Participate in major school events and activities, which on occasion may extend beyond the normal school day.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in EAL instruction and lower primary pedagogy

  • Understanding and practice of CLIL methodologies

  • Flexibility to collaborate across international and bilingual pathways

  • Commitment to building trust and partnerships with families

  • Skilled at honoring home languages, celebrating linguistic diversity, and fostering language confidence from an early age.

  • Dedicated to establishing safe, welcoming daily routines where every young learner feels known, valued, and safe to take linguistic risks.

  • Flexible, adaptive, and collaborative approach

Preferences

  • Ability to speak more than one language

  • Experience of working within a bilingual school setting

  • Skills and willingness to contribute to the wider school community through sports or activities
